I spend every summer in Nova Scotia, Canada, where my grandmother was born. Last summer, I was commissioned to do a batik painting of the famous Peggy's Cove Lighthouse. So I visited the village and lighthouse at least four times during the summer and took many photographs of both the village and lighthouse at sunset for inspiration. During lockdown in 2020, I did this batik painting of the idyllic Peggy's Cove village. It took me two and a half months to create! I particularly liked the challenge of creating the brightly coloured ropes in the foreground. I am pleased with how the sky turned out as well as the reflections of the buildings in the water.
