Susan Quekett

Susan grew up in Chichester, then emigrated to Western Australia when she was 20. She studied Fine Art at Curtin University in Perth, where her teachers included noted Australian artist George Haynes. Later, returning to England, she continued study with post graduate printmaking at the University of Central Lancashire. She has taught art in schools and colleges, and pursued her own art practice, in Western Australia and in England, exhibiting from time to time. The bright light and colour of hot climates has been a major stimulus and influence, while intensive and rigorous observation and drawing inform Susan’s work. In subject matter, the restrictions of life’s wider opportunities, as a mother of children, have imposed limitations, so much of her work is still life, flower studies, portraits, the joys of domestic minutiae. More recently she has ventured out into the landscape and is experiencing the wider pleasure of working out of doors. Susan continues to teach privately, enjoying passing on the knowledge and experience, and the excitement, of artistic discovery.
